FII Level 1 Freediver
Certificate Course

Discover the world of freediving and experience the freedom of exploring the ocean on a single breath with the FII Level 1 Freediver course in Seattle, WA. This comprehensive course is designed to set the foundational skills needed for those who want to learn how to freedive safely and confidently. Whether a complete beginner or an informally trained freediver/spearfisherman with years of experience, this course will set you on the right path to eliminate bad habits and show you the most efficient and safe freedive techniques. During this two-day course you will learn the fundamentals of freediving, including safety and emergency procedures, breathing techniques, equalization methods, and more. Through a combination of classroom sessions, confined water training, and open water freedives, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to extend your breath hold times, and dive to depths of up to 66 feet (20 meters) on a single breath.

Format:
– Day 1: 8am-7pm Classroom and Confined Water Training
– Day 2: 9am-3pm Open Water training – followed by debrief
– Day 3: Select courses include an additional Open Water training day.

Goals:
During this course students train the fundamentals of the FII education system in an easy-to-learn course format operating between the classroom, confined and open water setting. With a high emphasis on freedive safety training and technique development, students master the proper skills to effectively freedive up to depths of 66 feet/20 meters.

Level 1 Safety & Problem Management
Freediving Equipment
Physics and Physiology for the Level 1 Freediver
Correct Breathing for Freediving
Breath-Hold/Static Apnea Technique Development
Freediving Technique Development
To pass this course level, students must attend all sessions and demonstrate mastery of the F.I.I. Level 1 Freediver skills and knowledge.
Students have 12-months to complete the course at no additional tuition cost under any F.I.I.-certified instructor. 
Course Duration:
2-day program. Minimum 4 hours of academic work, 3 hours of confined water training, and 1.5 hours of open water depth training (varies per location and class).
Prerequisites:
Competent swimming skills and comfortable in open water.
Age Requirement:
Participants must be 16 years or older!
Required Equipment:
(Rentals Available)
7mm Wetsuit, 3-5mm gloves and booties, mask, snorkel, fins, weight belt, weights and timing device
Learning Materials:
FII Level 1 Freediver manual and workbook. All course materials are provided by the instructor at the beginning of each course.

Freedive Practice Sessions

Freediving Practice Sessions are perfect for certified divers looking to train on the line, or those working towards certification who want to finish their skills to become certificate. It is also a great way to meet new people, build confidence, and perfect technique in a safe and supportive environment.

Practice Sessions are 1.5-2.5 hours (depending on conditions) of open water freediving at your certified depth, where you can train at your own pace.

A certified instructor or assistant instructor will be present during the session to answer any questions and provide assistance as needed, so you can relax and enjoy your dive to the fullest. These sessions are a great opportunity to work on the skills you learned in Level 1 Freediver and gain valuable experience in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Private and Group Coaching

Private and group coaching sessions are meticulously crafted to refine your skills, unlock your potential, and truly connect yourself with the underwater world. Whether you’re a novice eager to improve your breath-hold diving or an experienced freediver/spearfisher aiming to perfect your technique, our one-on-one or small group sessions are tailored exclusively to your needs. Each session is customized to your skill level, objectives, and interests, ensuring that you progress at your own pace under the guidance of a skilled instructor. This approach instills the confidence and competence necessary to unlock your true freediving potential.
 
Coaching sessions typically include an hour of dry land coaching followed by 1.5-2.5 hours of open water freediving, depending on conditions, with a maximum depth at your certification level.
